In a warehouse in deepest post-industrial Salford, something significant is stirring.
From this covert location, UK garage originator and bass music don Zed Bias is issuing a salvo of remarkable underground releases on his IFG Records imprint.
Cut with a select band of collaborators and remixers, the club-quaking singles released on IFG so far occupy a subliminal sweet spot where dancefloor genres collide.
This latest, by Zed Bias, Yung Saber and Brakeman, is no exception. Already well-received and getting plays from supporters like Radio1Xtra’s DJ Target and Ras Kwame on Capital XTRA, “Shell Them Again” is a crisp two-step garage banger with a delicious dancehall twist.
With its infectious breaks garage feel and evocation of soundboy-clashing beefs, “Shell Them Again” is the fifth release from IFG and features two notable lyrical talents.
Yung Saber, hailing from Peckham, south London, has the UK dancehall reggae scene on lock right now.
Saber and Zed first met at Notting Hill Carnival where they both performed on the notorious Rampage stage to a 20,000 plus packed crowd. They then collaborated on a song with soul legends Omar and Terri Walker plus Radio1xtra’s Rampage, called “Perfect Company”.
Brakeman is an enigmatic MC legend. One of the founding fathers of the London grime scene back in the early noughties, he shows us his love for UKG in his first line, recounting one of Charlie Brown’s best-known lyrics…an echo from UK garage raves back in the 90’s.
This release also features a deep and dubby 140 remix, made by Zed Bias and antipodean drum and bass general Safire, who also the proprietor of Melbourne’s incredible QQQ club, where Zed Bias has performed a number of times and, earlier this year, hosted one of his Biasonic Music Academy workshops.
“Shell Them Again” by Zed Bias, Yung Saber and Brakeman will be available on 12” vinyl and on all streaming platforms on June 24.
